Tasted! Nannup Ridge “Rolling Hills” Cabernet Sauvignon 2014

I am standing on a mound of cuttings and sand, pushed to the side of a row of vines, in the late afternoon sun, I look west to Geographe Bay. The air is filled with the sounds of summer. Of cicadas grinding out a steady beat. Of flies softly buzzing, almost, but not quite, in time, around my lightly beaded brow. I see the sun glinting off the ocean waves and smell the salt air on a gentle breeze. There is eucalyptus, dry black dirt and scorched wood from a not too distant burn off. Above, ...

Vinoque Rose Nebbiolo 2016

Here we go again. A crisp, dry, delicate textural wine which is pink and has a trendy name. A name that usually only Aussie men drink when it is red and expensive and recommended to them after an AFL game at a Lygon Street eatery. If they have half a clue. I see pink juice, like the bottom of an empty bowl of sliced watermelon at your kids birthday party, I smell rose petals and white flowers, I taste musk sticks and real turkish delight, yellow cherries and under ripe satsumas.... and I fee...

Tasted! La Boheme “The Missing Act” Cabernet + Friend 2015

Well surprise! De Bortoli is trying something quirky and new. Beautifully packaged, this wine, as usual for Steve Weber, nails it in value for money and drinkability! Spicy Red fruit and black currant pastilles on the nose. The Cabernet is plush with ripe cherry, berry fruit and grainy tannins but the kick is the friendly Sangiovese that has insinuated itself into this party of one with its savoury tones of butcher shop floor and sawdust, making this deliciously enticing wine too soft, subt...

Tasted! Dukes Porongurup Riesling 2011

A bouquet redolent of Apple Blossoms and freshly grated lemon zest, this amazingly pretty wine is bone dry with crisp acidity, balanced with mouth filling apple and lemon citrus fruit. Elegant and long is the finish, like a catwalk model in evening wear, each sip revealing a new layer of complexity with its spicy minerality and charming florals that intermittently skip across the palate like a pebble on a mill pond. This stunning Riesling has quite a way to go in its evolution. It has only a ...

Tasted! Kilikanoon Oracle Shiraz 2004

Inky black with an intense, brooding nose of warm, mixed berry compote which flows seamlessly into a dark palate of ripe berry fruits. The tannins are fine and the vanillin oak is profound but this only just stands up to the heady, spiced fruit that spreads over the tastebuds like plum jam over warm, buttered bread. This wine is as rich as Donald Trump and equally as elegant. Juicy steaks and succulent roasts-both with grandma's boiled veggies- are the perfect foil for the long full bodied f...
